Who Is Velocity?

Local Internet Built for Kansas Communities.

In a world where internet providers often feel distant and one-size-fits-all, Velocity was built differently on purpose.

Velocity is powered by Butler Electric Cooperative, a trusted local cooperative that has served south-central Kansas for decades. With a mission rooted in digital equity for all Kansans, Velocity was created to bridge the digital divide by bringing reliable, high-speed internet to the communities we call home.

This isn’t a side project or a corporate expansion. Velocity is a grassroots effort, designed specifically to serve Butler Electric Cooperative members and surrounding areas with technology that fits both rural and small-town life.

Built on Cooperative Values

At its core, Butler Electric Cooperative has a long history of delivering safe, reliable electric service to approximately 7,500 residential and commercial meters across seven counties in south-central Kansas. In March 2018, that same commitment to service, reliability, and community investment became the foundation for Velocity.

What does that mean for our customers?

  • We’re locally owned and operated
  • Our decisions are made with the community in mind, not shareholders
  • We reinvest back into the areas we serve
  • Our teams live, work, and raise families here

Velocity exists to ensure our neighbors have access to the connectivity needed for work, education, healthcare, and everyday life.

Internet Options Designed for Real Life

Velocity’s network is built using a zone-based approach, meaning the type of internet service available depends on your location, terrain, and infrastructure in that area. Each technology is intentionally deployed to deliver the best possible performance for that specific area, there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
